Ji Junqun's Eight Poems of Jiangnan New Sensationalism: "Looking Up at the Bright Moon" (Chinese and English)
I. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
Unsent letters, folded into paper boats, let the tides take shape
—A silver hook hangs upside down, reflecting a smile on the water's surface
II. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
Like a mute shell, I repeat my vows by my pillow—
When the silver scales rise, the sea surface closes, and I hear your heartbeat on the other side
III. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
Can the clear light deepen even a fraction, so I can carve out the silver coins of my childhood?
Otherwise, how can I measure this dangling homesickness?
IV. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
In front of the Heavenly Palace, pear blossoms rustle Rustling like snow
The spinning machine sounds as old as ever
Weaving the silk I'm carrying to fulfill my distant dreams
V. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
The stars twinkle like hemp
Even if there were a ladder to the clouds—
Which one truly illuminates the eyes of my youthful years?
Six. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
The silver glow shimmers even more—
Fold the yellowed boat ticket into a small boat in the Milky Way
I wait for the tide to push it back to the dock of my hometown.
Seven. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
I long to borrow the frost grains warmed by your pupils
Plant a silver hook by the window
Let vines cling to my long-withered branches
Eight. Looking Up at the Bright Moon
Ji Junqun/Brazil
Who will light the lantern? The Milky Way swirls into a stairway—
As I ascend the steps, the Jade Rabbit stealthily opens the letter from home, scattering the fragrance of osmanthus flowers across the ground.
