明月的夜晚
听蝈蝈的叫声
有时一只在叫
有时几只在叫
心想:
它们叫累了是否停一会
邻居家回来了
吱吖的开了大门
又听到插大门的声音
他家院子里的小狗传来撒欢的声音
月光透进棉纸裱的木窗
明天要跟大人去赶街
去县城租看小人书
上次上县城看到书摊有很多小人书
只能站在摊外饱饱眼福
书摊就像海
千般吸引贪玩没下过水的小孩
蝈蝈声叫个不停
也许停了会让同伴不知道它的身影
夜深了
蝈蝈声伴我进入想象中看小人书的梦境
The Chirping of Katydids

On a moonlit night,
I listen to the chirping of katydids.
Sometimes one calls alone,
Sometimes several join in.
I wonder:
When they grow tired, do they pause for a while?
The neighbor returns home,
The gate creaks as it opens,
Followed by the sound of the bolt sliding shut.
From their yard, the little dog’s joyful barks echo.
Moonlight filters through the cotton-papered wooden window.
Tomorrow, I’ll go with the adults to the market,
To rent picture-story books in the county town.
Last time, I saw many at the bookstall,
But with no money, I could only feast my eyes from afar.
The bookstall is like an ocean,
Its countless ships enticing playful children who’ve never ventured into the waters.
The katydids chirp incessantly—
Perhaps if they stopped, their companions would lose track of their presence.
Late into the night,
Their chirping accompanies me into a dream, where I wander through the world of picture-story books.
